MERCED, CA – A surprising move by the Merced College Board of Trustees last night as they voted to place the college president, Dr. Ronald Taylor, on administrative leave. Many did not see the leave coming as Dr. Taylor had just announced last week that he would be retiring in June.
A letter sent on behalf of Dennis Jordan, president of the Merced College Board of Trustees was sent to Merced College Campus last night January 26, 2016. It reads;
The Board of Trustees has placed Dr. Ronald Taylor on administrative leave effective immediately. It is our goal to keep the business of the district moving forward and to continue serving our students to assist with access and success. To this end, I have asked Chris Vitelli, Vice President of Student Services, to serve as the Acting President until the Board appoints an Interim President during this time of transition. I will provide transparent communication to the campus community in the coming weeks regarding next steps and transitional leadership.
Robin Shepard from the Merced College’s public information officer stated to MCNTV News that Dr. Taylor was not fired but placed on administrative leave. He also stated that he could only confirm that yes the action was taken by the board, but due to personnel confidentiality that was all he could say.
