MERCED PD OFFICER FIRES ONE SHOT AS MAN PULLS GUN AND WALKS TOWARD MERCED PD OFFICER SITTING IN HIS CAR

MERCED, CA – The Merced Police Department responded to a loud party call in the 1100 Block of Crescent Drive at 12:48 A.M. When officers arrived there was a large party that was breaking up. One officer saw the suspect pulling out a gun as the suspect was walking towards another officer that was seated in his patrol vehicle. The officer gave the suspect orders to drop the gun and he refused. The officer fired one round, missing the suspect. The suspect then dropped the gun and fled on foot.

An extensive search was done of the area but officers did not locate the suspect. The Merced Police Department Investigations Unit is actively investigating this case. There is no suspect description available at this time.

There were no injuries to officers and/or citizens.
