MERCED – New water efficiency guidelines are now in effect throughout the State following a revised Model Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance adopted by the California Water Commission.

The State’s Ordinance includes revised water efficiency standards for retrofitted landscapes, incentives for grey water usage, on site storm water management techniques, and the portion of landscapes that can be covered in turf.

Governor Jerry Brown issued Executive Order B-29-15 on April 1, 2015 directing the Department of Water Resources to update the Ordinance through expedited regulation to increase water efficiency standards for new and retrofitted landscapes.

The revised Ordinance was approved by the California Water Commission on July 15, 2015. As of December 1, 2015, all landscapes are subject to the State’s revised Ordinance. For more information on this Ordinance and landscape requirements follow the link below:
