MERCED COUNTY, CA – By: Vanessa Mininger – Most All-Star Cheer gyms build their teams for years before earning a bid to a Summit competition. On February 6, Merced’s very own Cen-Cal Spirit Elite All-Stars did just that securing two of only four bids to attend the D2 Summit to be held in Tampa, Florida April 30-May 1.
“We have a really young team with the youngest being only six, but they work as hard as any other team. They earned this,” said head coach, Vannessa Sevilla.
This is particularly impressive because there were over 100 other teams from across the Central Valley and the Bay Area all competing for those four bids. Many of these gyms have been involved in the competitive cheer circuit for years and are established as being prominent teams.
Even though there are other All-Star gyms in Merced, parent Marnie Howe chose CCSE because of “the family atmosphere. Everyone supports each other here.”
Each team, ranging in age from 6-14 years old, puts in four hours of practice each week in addition to extra practices before competitions. Cheerleader Zoe Tenenbaum is at the gym most nights of the week, but wouldn’t have it any other way. “I love the tumbling part of cheer because I like trying to do things that involve me flipping in the air!”
The CCSE gym is honored to have been chosen to represent Merced County and would appreciate your support to help defray the costs associated with traveling across the United States for this competition. A dinner and auction is being organized for March. If you or your business is interested in donating towards their expenses please click the link below: https://www.gofundme.com/h3nn6smc
