Men’s Basketball – Sun, Feb. 21, 2016 at 9:40 PM – Record: 9-13 Home: 7-3 Away: 2-9 Neutral: 0-1 Cal Pac: 5-7

UC MERCED, CA – The University of California, Merced men’s basketball team struggled to make shots all night, and the result was a tough 71-46 road loss to California Maritime Academy.

The good news behind the loss is that the game, although still a loss, doesn’t count against UC Merced. The Bobcats were already locked into the fourth seed in the Cal Pac Conference playoffs heading into Sunday night’s game. With these two teams scheduled to meet in the first round of the playoffs Saturday afternoon, the Bobcats played with a little bit of secrecy, not wanting to give the Keelhaulers much to scout them on.

Aaron Laflin finished the game with a strong nine points and 13 rebounds.Reggie Nelson finished the game with seven points, three rebounds and three assists.

The team as a whole shot just 29% from the floor, while Cal Maritime was able to hit on 41% of their shots.

Typically a team that thrives from long range, the Bobcats had trouble making their three-point shots, hitting just five of their 24 attempts.

UC Merced won’t lose sleep over the loss. In fact, they’ll look forward to the week off before their first round matchup with this same Keelhaulers squad.

That game will tip at 5:30 PM on February 27th. It will be played at Cal Maritime’s home court. UC Merced will release information on a fan bus trip early next week.
