UC MERCED, CA – There’s something to be said about rematches, and Holy Names University had this one circled on the calendar. The University of California, Merced men’s volleyball team met a very different team Sunday afternoon, and the results showed it. The Bobcats couldn’t seem to find an answer, and they fell in straight sets.
Cole Smith led the way offensively for the Bobcats, finishing with nine kills.Matt Pelfini had a solid all-around game, setting up 22 assists while also finishing with four kills, four digs, and a solo block.
After dropping sets one and two, the Bobcats rallied in the third set. Trailing 23-18, UC Merced made a final push to try to take set three, rallying all the way to 24-22. Unfortunately it was too little too late, as HNU ultimately earned the 25th and final point.
The Bobcats will relax for the rest of the week before hopping on a plane and heading to Marshall Missouri for four games in two days, starting on the 26th. That first game will come against Ottawa University at noon.
