ATWATER, CA – Recently, MCNTV News has held the City of Atwater accountable for its lack of dealing with gangs and at one point called the mayor directly to push the issue. Today, five gang members were arrested in Atwater for a series of recent shootings.
The arrested include 29-year-old Asuncion Rodriguez, whom Atwater PD believes is the leader of the surenos in Atwater, a 15-year-old boy for his role in recent violence, as well as Erick Guillen, 28, Joaquin Flores, 24, and Jesus Estrada, 20.
Numerous search warrants were served in connection with three shootings that recently occurred. Two firearms were seized during the arrests and authorities said one is believed to have been used in one of the shootings.
“We do anticipate making more arrests in this case,” Lt Joseph of the Atwater PD said.
The Atwater police lieutenant praised itself for the investigation and said the Merced Police Department’s gang unit and the Merced Area Gang and Narcotics Task Force provided assistance. But they never mentioned the many citizens who have been living in fear for many years and have recently come out including one family who also called the Atwater Mayor a week ago complaining about the blatant presence of the gangs. Atwater PD also refused to answer why the prime suspect in a recent stabbing death at Applegate Inn was allowed to get away when they knew he had done the stabbing days before they went to arrest him.
We will stay on this story and ensure this is not a one-time move by the Atwater PD to do its job.
To the Atwater citizens who helped get these gangs off the street, MCNTV News says THANK YOU for coming out of the shadows and not being afraid to confront these gangs.
