SUSPECT FROM WEDNESDAY’S HIGH-SPEED CHASE IDENTIFIED

12524112_1046566062068313_4088622625666253613_nMERCED, CA – On Wednesday March 02, 2016, the Merced Police Department’s Gang Violence Suppression Unit (GVSU) located Michael Salazar who had a felony warrant for his arrest on Bell Drive in Atwater, CA. Officers tried to arrest him and he sped away in his vehicle at a high rate of speed. A vehicle pursuit ensued and GVSU officers along with other allied law enforcement agencies engaged in a vehicle pursuit with Salazar. Salazar evaded officers in the vehicle pursuit driving his car recklessly through the cities of Atwater, Livingston and Delhi northbound on Highway 99. The pursuit ended southbound on Highway 99 in Delhi where Salazar crashed his car in a ditch on the side of the freeway. Salazar then ran from his car and officers gave chase. Salazar was captured a short distance away and taken into custody. Officers searched the suspect’s car and located over 2 ounces of packaged methamphetamine, a baggy of marijuana and a scale. Salazar was arrested for felony evading, possession of narcotics for sale, resisting arrest and a felony warrant.
