STEVINSON, CA – A 51-year-old Hilmar man was struck by a Sheriff’s Deputy’s vehicle last night on Lander Ave., in Stevinson near the Stevinson Corner Market. The deputy involved was driving a Ford Crown Victoria on Highway 165 and was  at Third Avenue when he hit the man. It is believed he was walking in the southbound lane of the roadway. The video obtained by MCNTV News shows what appears to be a Merced County Sheriff’s deputy checking on the person as they lay in the roadway. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Residents in the area say the roadway is not safe for anyone to walk on and is very dark at night with no sidewalks. With the added rain it can make it very difficult for drivers to see a pedestrian.

MCNTV News has also reached out to the Merced Area CHP for more information and clarification and are waiting for their response.
