12835044_10208951985345676_1654999456_nMERCED, CA – Volunteers from across the San Joaquin Valley hit the streets this past Tuesday for the 29th annual Kids Day and sold thousands of special edition copies of The Bee.

The group had a goal of beating last year’s record of $545,546.40, and after the final tallies are in they just may have set a new record.

“It takes a while to get everything turned in,” said Molly Marquez, manager of annual development at the Valley Children’s Foundation. “We’ve got everything with the exception of non-Fresno-area schools.”

The annual fundraising event has raised $7.3 million in the last 28 years for Valley Children’s Hospital, which cares for children from 11 counties.

But if you missed your chance to help and still would like to donate you can text KIDSDAY to 41444 or go to the Valley Children’s website at http://donate.valleychildrens.org/
