DELHI, CA – The name of the victim who was shot and killed in Delhi last Friday night has been identified as 23-year-old Abram Sigula Hernandez from Merced. Abram died at am Modesto hospital after being shot in the 1500 block of Shell Street.
A suspect has been arrested and charged with the murder. 25-year-old Juan Carlos Gonzalez has been charged in the shooting that left Hernandez dead and a female victim wounded with non-life threatening wound to her leg.
Merced County Sheriff’s Office Detectives said that they do believe it was a gang motivated attack.
Gonzalez was arrested in 2009 for accidentally shooting 17-year-old Saul Lopez on August 15, 2009 at a house party in Hilmar. Gonzales is said to have placed the weapon against his friend chest before pulling the trigger on the .22 revolver. Lopez was described as Gonzales’s best friend and he was heard saying “I’m sorry” repeatedly after his friend was wounded.
Gonzales pleaded not guilty in 2012 and was sentenced to 7 years in prison and was released from prison last year.
If found guilty Gonzalez faces more than 75 years to life in prison.
