download (1)ATWATER, CA – A verbal argument led to a late night gun battle in Atwater, police say, with no suspects in custody and no injuries reported.

APD states that at approximately 11:43 p.m., a verbal argument in the Camellia Mobile Home Park, 2355 Atwater Blvd, involved two different groups of men when two of the men involved pulled guns and started shooting. Words were exchanged between two groups of men and two of the men opened fire. According to Lt Sam Joseph of the APD one of the two groups was a father with his two sons and all three were apparently armed and returned fire.

“Fortunately, it doesn’t appear anyone was hurt. We’ve received no reports of any injuries,” Joseph said. The names of the man and his sons are not being released out of concern for their safety. “We believe they were defending themselves. The guns they had, two handguns and a rifle, were legal and they had all the paperwork.”

Atwater PD has not yet determined a motive for the shooting at this time.
