Spike in gun violence led to raids…
DELHI, CA – Several homes throughout Delhi were the targets of raids conducted by the Merced County Sheriff’s Office this afternoon. Several arrests were made and firearms seized as investigators followed-up on leads developed from recent shootings in the small Merced County town.
“A lot of these shootings have been in broad daylight, in front of schools like Schendel Elementary, and another was in front of a preschool,” Detective-Sgt. Chuck Hale said. “Obviously we can’t have that type of thing happening in broad daylight with children present.”
Helicopters were seen flying over the area as Schendel Elementary School was placed on lock down at approximately 1 pm while warrants were served at homes just across the street from the school. MCNTV News has called repeatedly to the Merced County Sgt Shelton’s office to ask why the raids had to be conducted during school hours, but we have not yet heard a response.
Law enforcement officials say their operations will continue into the evening and were being conducted by several local law enforcement agencies.
