MERCED, CA – On Friday April 08, 2016, the Merced Police Department’s Gang Violence Suppression Unit (GVSU) developed information that gang member Israel Sanchez had firearms at his home in Merced. The Gang Violence Suppression Unit conducted a probation search of his residence located in the 1600 block of Merced Ave in the City of Merced. During the search, GVSU officers located as loaded 25 caliber handgun inside his vehicle and ammunition inside his bedroom. Sanchez was arrested and booked at the Merced County jail for felon in possession of a loaded firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and gang enhancements.
