MERCED COUNTY, CA – They say with April showers comes May flowers, but they never mentioned the knocked over trees and other destruction caused by April showers as some Merced County residents found themselves waking to the storm damage left from the overnight downpour.
Heavy flooding was reported around Alicia Reyes Elementary school in Merced overnight at N Street and Childs Avenue and several Merced area residents in the area of the 200 block of S Street and 2nd Street have been without power since about 8:30 a.m. due to a damaged power pole.
CHP has also asked drivers to slow down in the rain as the roads are very slippery and can also cause a car’s tires to hydroplane.
Spotty rain showers are expected off and on today and into Sunday with a possible thunderstorm or two. High is forecast to reach 66 degrees in Merced with a low dropping to about 53. Another splash of rain is due to hit the area again later this week as a storm moves in late Wednesday and into Thursday.
