ATWATER, CA – An Atwater suspect has been arrested on charges that he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl who is related to him. He also stands accused of threatening to hurt the victim’s sister if the victim did not allow the sexual assault to continue. Atwater PD continued with its inability to inform the public of the arrest until Monday even though media requests were made over the weekend.
22-year-old Robert M. Estrada was booked into the Merced County Jail on Friday for numerous felonies and a misdemeanor of resisting arrest.
Atwater PD said Estrada had been under investigation for allegedly molesting his teenage family member and for making criminal threats against his alleged victim’s sister, but Atwater PD did not state when the investigation first began and why was Estrada still allowed around his victim.
Estrada also had a warrant for a previous charge of assault with a firearm, but again Atwater PD did not return our calls for answers because we ask the real and hard questions.
When Atwater PD did finally go to the home, the suspect attempted to barricade himself inside.
“Officers were able to make entry into the residence, where the suspect refused to comply with the officers and physically fought the officers,” said an Atwater PD officer. “The officers were eventually able to secure the suspect without further incident.”
Estrada remains in jail on $150,000 bail.
