ATWATER, CA – Students at Atwater High School this morning were shocked when one student was stabbed on their campus as they were making their way to classes. The suspect, who ran from the scene, was chased down by school staff and was captured in the area of Stillwell Avenue
The crime occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m., and is believed to have happened in the cafeteria area of the school. The victim had been stabbed four to five times in the back and also suffered a hand wound and was flown to an area hospital for treatment. Authorities confirm his wounds are considered superficial and not life threatening. No other injuries were reported.
A 15-year-old male suspect has been detained and is being questioned by law enforcement as to motive for the stabbing. The weapon used has also been recovered.
There were no other injuries.The school was laced on a short lock down and resumed normal school operations shortly after.
