CHP has confirmed one fatality at this time…
MERCED COUNTY, CA – Units with the Merced Area CHP, Cal Fire and Riggs responded to Lincoln Blvd and Atwater Jordan Road at 4:55 p.m. this afternoon for a report a big rig vs an unknown vehicle. The reporting party stated a big rig and an unknown vehicle collided and the vehicle caught fire. The big rig is believed to have severed thew power pole and power is knocked out in the area.
“At this time we have limited information,” Officer Onsurez of the CHP said to MCNTV News. “What we do know at this time is that a collision occurred between a big rig with a 53′ trailer and a Dodge Ram with a trailer on Lincoln between Atwater Jordan and 140.”
Officer Onsurez further stated that he cannot confirm the status of anyone involved only saying that it has been difficult to communicate due to the power outage in the area.
“We do have the roads closed in the area and Pg&E is on their way to the scene,” he confirmed.
The CHP has called for road closures in the area including Lincoln on Atwater Jordan and South Side of the traffic collision on Lincoln.
An additional fire started at Lincoln and Sunset and Cal Fire is aware.
