DRIVER OF BIG RIG THAT CRASHED INTO TURLOCK CAR PORT IDENTIFIED AS LOCAL LIVINGSTON MAN

TURLOCK, CA – The driver of a big rig who was killed when his truck went off the 99 freeway at Lander Ave. on Thursday afternoon, crashing into a retaining wall and car port of the Avena Bella apartment complex, has been identified by authorities this morning.

Livingston resident Sukhmander Gill, who was 65-years-old was driving a Freightliner big rig northbound on Highway 99 when just before 10 a.m., for unknown reasons his truck drifted from the slow lane over to the shoulder before it went further off the freeway, barreling through the retaining wall and colliding  with three other vehicles in the parking area of the apartment complex.

Due to severe injuries suffered by the driver of the big rig, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

One of the vehicles struck by the big rig was occupied and the driver was pinned in his vehicle and had to be extracted by emergency personnel from his Toyota Tundra. He was taken to Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock with minor injuries.

Authorities confirmed they do not know yet what caused the accident and the investigation is on going.
