ATWATER, CA – On May 8th, 2016 at approximately 4:00 PM Atwater Police were summoned to The Applegate Inn located at 1501 Sycamore Avenue in reference to a verbal domestic dispute at Room #120. Officers arrived and spoke to the female party who called the police and she advised them that she and her boyfriend, Raymond Bankhead, had been arguing.
According to the female she requested that Bankhead leave, which he did, however a short time later the female heard someone banging on her motel room door. As she was too afraid to look outside, she only assumed that the person banging on the door was Bankhead. She provided a description of Bankhead to responding officers and a subject matching his description was located seated on a curb on the west side of the motel. Officer Vargas attempted to make contact with the subject however he fled on foot and ran eastbound through the motel lot towards Applegate Road. Ignoring Officer Vargas’s repeated commands to stop, another APD officer, Officer Crain, located the subject running on Atwater Blvd. and was able apprehend him in the 1300 Block in the alleyway behind Nacho’s Tires. The subject struggled briefly with the apprehending officer however was ultimately handcuffed and taken into custody.
The male was later positively identified as Raymond Bankhead but not before he initially provided officers with a false name. It was also later learned that Bankhead was a Parolee at Large with an active warrant for his arrest. He was booked into the Merced County Jail on the warrants, the fresh charge of obstructing a peace officer and a parole hold placed by his parole officer.
